CURLING LEAGUE 2026
What is Stick Curling?
Sturling USA (which is abbreviated for STick cURLING)
Deb Menger the curling coordinator for RiverCity Sport Plex created this sport after hearing about the Canadian version on a curling podcast “Inside Curling”.
Sturling was invented for people who cannot bend down and get up like the pro’s on T.V. However, the strategy and rules are the same as traditional curling. Sturling is done by pushing the 43-pound stone standing up using a simple modified stick.
Here is how Sturling USA works: (as much fun, but Senior friendly)
-
4-person team
-
8 stones per team
-
Play 8 ends (innings)
-
You can throw with a stick, OR down in the hack (along the floor line like traditional curling)
-
2 team members throw from opposite ends of the house
-
Each team member throws 4 stones
-
2 team members throw the first 8 stones (4 each-every other inning). The score is updated then the other two throw them back.
-
No sweeping up and down the sheet like in actual curling.
-
Sweeping is allowed from the blue line to the house.
-
Both team mates can sweep the stones
-
All other curling rules from the traditional game are the same. Scoring, sweeping in the house, defensive plays, throwing and releasing the stone from the same line.
